How to Check Your WAEC, NECO, and JAMB Results Online in 2026 (With or Without a Scratch Card)

Results are out. Your phone is buzzing with messages from classmates. You need to check your result right now — but you don't have a scratch card, you're not sure which site is real, and you've already seen three people post about being scammed by fake WAEC portals.

Deep breath. Here's everything you need, in one place, no confusion.

WAEC Result Checker: Step-by-Step

The official WAEC result checking portal is waecdirect.org — no other URL, no "waec-results.com.ng" or any variation. If the URL doesn't start with waecdirect.org, close the tab.

What you need:

Current cost: ₦4,000 for a result checker PIN

How to check:
1. Go to waecdirect.org
2. Select "WASSCE for School Candidates" (or "Private" if applicable)
3. Enter your Exam Number (format: state code + centre number + candidate number, e.g. '4280101001')
4. Enter your exam year
5. Enter your checker PIN and Serial Number
6. Click Submit

Your result loads immediately if everything is entered correctly.

NECO Result Checker: Step-by-Step

Official portal: neco.gov.ng

What you need:

Current cost: ₦1,200 for a checker PIN

How to check:
1. Go to neco.gov.ng
2. Click Check Result
3. Select your examination type
4. Enter your Examination Number and PIN
5. Submit

JAMB Results: Actually Free — No PIN Required

Here's what most people don't know: JAMB results are free to check. You do not need to buy a checker PIN for JAMB.

Go to jamb.gov.ng → Results → enter your JAMB Registration Number. That's it.

If someone is selling you a "JAMB result checker PIN," that's not a thing. JAMB does not sell checker PINs the same way WAEC and NECO do. Don't buy one.

What JAMB does sell separately:

Those are different products for different purposes.

Scratch Card vs VTU PIN: What's the Actual Difference?

A physical scratch card from a bank or licensed WAEC agent gives you a PIN and Serial Number printed under a silver scratch panel. The same PIN and Serial Number can be delivered to you digitally through a VTU platform — same validity, same check, no physical card.

The only differences:

You've seen this. You've probably lived this. That one digit that's halfway scratched off and could be a 6 or an 8 and you try both and neither works.

Digital checker PINs from VTU platforms solve this completely.

The Price Scam: Know the Real Cost

The real price for a WAEC result checker PIN is ₦4,000.
The real price for a NECO result checker PIN is ₦1,200.

Some agents at cybercafés, school gates, and social media charge ₦2,000–₦3,000 for the same PIN. They are simply marking up the price and banking on the fact that you don't know the official rate.

If someone quotes you more than:

...they're overcharging you. Buy your PIN from a legitimate VTU platform like Vtyield where the price is transparent and the PIN is delivered instantly.

What to Do If Your Checker PIN Doesn't Work

For WAEC:

If your result shows "Result Withheld":
This is not a portal error. It means WAEC is withholding your result because of an outstanding issue — usually a financial hold placed by your school (school fee arrears, textbook charges, etc.). You need to go to your school's exam officer for clearance. Once cleared, WAEC releases the result within a few days.
